Why AI?
With the prominence of AI growing in our collective consciousness and it’s abilities becoming more and more robust and detailed; one might ask “if AI can do it, why should I bother?”
Indeed, why don’t we just sit back and order up a pop song in the style of Taylor Swift with a touch of Steely Dan; sit back and wait to be amused and entertained? Why don’t we have our invitations run off by AI with that professional look and feel that will entreat our invitees to rush to the party?
The answer in some cases is “why not?”, it saves time, it looks/sounds good. So why the f—- not?
But (and its a big but)! I don’t see the benefit to our creative side if we had AI do all our work for us. Why? Because there is something to be gained not only for those who experience our work but to the creators themselves. There is a sense of accomplishment, fulfillment and growth that is indispensable. To have that taken from us just in the interest of generating ‘product’ misses at least half the point of why things are made.
So when you find yourself at the point where you have the choice of making something yourself or having some app do the work for you; think twice before you hit ‘OK’. You may be missing out on one of the greatest benefits of being human.
