Gochujang
The magic ingredient! If you don’t know what this wonderful condiment is - just imagine tomato paste with a pepper flake hit of spice. It’s much more than that, but that’ll get you in the ballpark.
I first experienced gochujang when my kids asked me to make Tteokbokki. This was a helluva dish. We followed the instructions in the recipe published by Maangchi. It was very very hot (spicy hot) - I couldn’t eat it; but my kids liked it.
Since then, I’ve used this stuff in chicken wings, tomato sauces, egg dishes and more - especially shakshuka! If you’re looking for some variation in your sauces and condiments in general, look no further than gochujang!
