Struck Down
Greetings, my fair friends! As promised, I have a song for you to enjoy. It’s called ‘Struck Down’ and its about my stay in the hospital earlier this year - quite the fun-fest it was! It’s got a bit of a Brechtian twist at the end, as do quite a few of my songs.
So, here’s the song:
For those of you who are keen on lyrics, here they are:
Struck Down - ©2021 Rob Houghton
I'm moving along - going my own way - Don't need anybody's help
I'm knocking 'em down - one by one now, given them trouble - giving them hell.
Then something grows deep down inside me - no warning made no SOS
The pain it grows, no way to hide now
Gotta reach out for someone to help
I said:
I don't know what's going on - only that I'm struck down
Bad'uns coming lately
I don't know what happened here - only that I'm struck down
Baby won't you please...
I'm flat out stuck, stuck in a room
Angels flying by me - keeping me sane
I'm flat out stuck with no way to move.
My mind keeps passing in and out of time.
The news ain't good - Radar on my guts say
Aliens made a home where nothing should be.
What the hell! what are we going to do now - will those angels come and rescue me?
CHORUS
I've been a good boy - always cleaned my plate
But something happened, something bad now
And maybe it's too late.
GUITAR SOLO
I'm on the mend, doctor's sounding hopeful
Need to get my ass back in gear.
Going to work in a couple of days now -
This horror show is finally coming to an end.
Got the mail - one's from the doctor - surgery's gonna cost me 50 grand
Though I was better but the pit in my stomach says
I don't see a way out of here!
CHORUS
Fin!
If you are so inclined, please don’t send copies to others at this point. That being said, feel free to point them to this blog! It will be on iTunes and streaming services in a bit, I’ll let you know when that happens.
Just a check-in regarding my MEM (Meditate/Exercise/Music) efforts last week - they flew out the window with all the work that had to be done for school. Looking to right the ship this week.
Oh! and I got some mangosteens from SayWeee.com and unfortunately, they were overly ripe and not at all appetizing; so I still don’t know what they taste like. I may have to bite the bullet and pay top dollar and get some from a more established food service to finally experience what Phil Rosenthal call ‘juicy ice-cream’.
As always, please comment, make suggestions, reprimand, cajole or otherwise weigh-in with your thoughts. Especially let me know what you think of the song. I know some folk have listened to my music and then ‘crickets’ - they don’t say anything… believe it or not, I rather hear constructive negative comments than nothing at all. So don’t hold back, be nice… but don’t hold back!
Cheers!
